There is a difference between Religion and Christianity.
Religion is man’s attempt to reach God.
Christianity is Jesus/God’s attempt to reach man.
They are different in so many aspects, but the fundamental truth is that both teach God is Real, but one may understand Religion dictates how one must seek God. This is far from the truth of Christianity, which allows each of us to reach God right where we are. Even in our brokenness – we don’t have to follow religious doctrines. (Watch for the Post when I reveal how I came to this knowledge)
Jesus said the way, the truth, the life is found through Him alone. Read that Again!!
Abraham Lincoln, General Robert E. Lee, Albert Schweizer, Calvin Coolidge, and even Christopher Columbus believed the Bible. Calvin Coolidge a sitting US president between (1923-1929) said ‘the foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country.’ Understand what he is saying here – if our society and/or government cease to adhere to Biblical faith, in which our country was founded – we will cease to support the foundations which, in effect will cause our country to crumble. Abraham Lincoln (1861-1865) stated ‘we have been recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has grown, but we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hands that preserved us…..We have vainly imagined in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that All these blessings were produced by virtue of our own! Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God who made us.
Congress put out a statement in 1983 to proclaim it as the ‘Year of the Bible’ … the Bible, the Word of God, has made a unique contribution in shaping the United States as a studding and blessed nation and people…. Deeply held religious convictions springing from the Holy Scriptures led to the early settlement of our nation… Biblical teachings inspired concepts of civil government that are contained in our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Readiness to believe or understand the differences between Religion and Christianity is very important. Until they themselves feel the need to acknowledge real truths within the Bible not their denomination – they will most likely remain lost. Religion is Not about the Bible.
