Sin Kills. The Spirit gives life. (Romans 8:11) God says you can ask Him anything! So if you are choosing to live a life for Christ, you should be able to speak to and hear from God in the Spirit. Now, you can hear and feel God (the Holy Spirit) without being baptized in the Spirit. However, the goal is to be baptized in the Spirit! Now, yes you can simply Ask. However, that is Not what will get you the Spirit. The asking is telling God you feel ready, but ONLY God chooses who actually gets baptized. That means God knows your heart and if you are ready in mind, body and soul – He will most likely answer that prayer, but remember it may not be overnight!
There is work to do if you want to be indwelled with the Spirit. Nothing comes from nothing; so if you want change – YOU HAVE TO CHANGE! Here is where you ask God. Ask for the strength to Free yourself from all sin completely. Ask Him to take away any desire in you for even the thought of any sinful behavior that is not of Christ. Pride is blinding. If you sin – knowing its sinful and continuous action of said thing does not mean the Holy Spirit is not in your life – it means You have Not fully surrendered to HIM. The Holy Spirit will never lead you to violate Gods Law.
There is no way (on Earth) that we can live a life of holiness. It is only by and through the Holy Spirit that we separate ourselves from (the World) around us. You cannot allow yourself to become immersed in the practice, culture or the attitudes of ‘this World’. The Way to live a Holy Life is to separate yourself from any transgression of God’s Ways. God opposes the Proud, but gives grace to the humble.
